We Are the Medicine: Human Development and Child Well Being In an Era of Ordinary Magic
March 29, 2017
On March 29, 2017, Christina Bethell, PhD, MBA, MPH, will present findings from a three year national effort to address childhood adversity and promote child wellbeing in children’s health services. The resulting “We Are the Medicine” agenda seeks to integrate streams of neurobiological, social sciences and mind-body research related to preventing and addressing childhood adversity to promote positive health and wellbeing; with a focus on relevance to and implications for children’s health services. Conclusions position the cultivation of safe, stable, nurturing relationships, self-awareness and mindfulness as a matter of public health.
Bethell, is a Professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health’s Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health where she serves as the founding Director of the Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative and National Maternal and Child Health Data Resource Center. She is also a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course facilitator.
