Implementation Science
Penn State CTSI's Implementation Science Core (ISC) service team supports implementation science projects within the Penn State community. Implementation science is the connecting bridge that brings evidence-based interventions into the real-world setting. The ISC strives to increase the adoption, integration, and sustainability of evidence-based practices into real-world resource-constrained settings to improve health equity.
Frequently Asked Questions
The CTSI provides implementation science consultations to Penn State investigators and trainees who are looking to improve research and evaluation of intervention implementation efforts. We especially welcome consultation requests from faculty and postdocs. Doctoral-level students (MD, PhD, DrPH) are also eligible for this service.
Implementation science is an emerging field that focuses on integrating evidence-based interventions into real-world public health and clinical practices. Our consultations are available to inform existing projects, research ideas, grant applications, manuscripts, and abstract submissions.
Consultations include:
Guidance for selecting implementation science-oriented theories, models, or frameworks
Identification of implementation strategies to test alongside interventions
Identification of implementation measures and the creation of data collection tool(s)
Grant and manuscript writing support
Assistance in identifying external funding opportunities
Assistance in identifying collaborators and community partners to conduct projects
An initial one-hour consultation and follow-up (up to 4 hours/year total) are provided free of charge, after which the faculty or staff handling your project can discuss the billing rates for additional services.

ISC Webinars
The CTSI's ISC service team provides several hybrid and virtual education opportunities.

External Resources
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) offers an 8-module series to guide learners in developing a project idea using Dissemination & Implementation (D&I) Science. The series is relevant to researchers who are new to D&I research. These eight modules include videos, readings, and self-reflection questions. After completing the modules, trainees can workshop their proposed projects using what they've learned.
The Consortium for Cancer Implementation Science (CCIS) focuses on collaboration and innovation in implementation science. CCIS offers training and research, and practice tools for scientists seeking to learn more about implementation science, specifically as it relates to cancer control.
The University of Pittsburgh's Dissemination and Implementation Science Collaborative (Pitt DISC) produces informational videos on topics in implementation science. Pitt DISC's goal is to connect interdisciplinary dissemination and implementation (D&I) scientists and trainees to develop D&I collaborative research, education, infrastructure, and capacity. This channel focuses on common topics in implementation science to share information and knowledge.
