Partners & Collaborators
Our clinical network spans across Pennsylvania's rural regions, and comprises 32 hospitals, over 1,100 clinics and health centers, and cares for over 5 million patients—nearly 40% of the state’s population.
Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute has established a robust clinical network of partners and collaborators spanning Pennsylvania's rural regions. This network includes our established partner Allegheny Health Network (AHN) / Highmark Health and collaborator Primary Health Network (PHN); and two new collaborators: Geisinger Health (Geisinger) and the Pennsylvania Association of Community Health Centers (PACHC).
This broad network offers exposure to real-world learning environments in community-based settings and increases collaboration between clinicians and researchers across disciplines, reduces barriers to multi-site clinical trials, increases access to shared resources, and enables authentic community engagement across the state. Together, this extensive clinical network has a tremendous opportunity to advance rural health through translational science in Pennsylvania and beyond.
Addressing Rural Health Disparities Together

Allegheny Health Network (AHN)
AHN is an academic training center and one of the ten largest non-university graduate medical education sponsoring institutions in the nation, with 560 residents and fellows across programs in more than 50 specialties. AHN has over 300 clinical facilities and 2,600 affiliated physicians.

Primary Health Network (PHN)
PHN has grown to become the largest FQHC in Pennsylvania, with approximately 40 sites spanning 17 counties. In 2024, PHN provided services to over 75,000 patients.

Geisinger Health
Geisinger includes ten hospital campuses, a 550,000-member health plan, and the Geisinger College of Health Sciences. With more than 26,000 employees and 1,700 employed physicians, Geisinger boosts the economies of its communities in PA by billions of dollars annually.

Pennsylvania Association of Community Health Centers (PACHC)
PACHC is the statewide Primary Care Association established in 1981, which represents and supports the largest network (488 Federally Qualified Health Centers) of providers in the state.
