Frontiers of Rural Health & AI: Inter-campus Pilot Funding Program

The Frontiers of Rural Health & AI: Planning for Rural Pennsylvania Inter-campus Pilot Funding Program is a planning grant program that supports interdisciplinary and intercampus research projects in AI and health, broadly defined. This new program fosters collaboration and synergy among researchers from different disciplines and campuses and leverages Penn State's diverse expertise and resources in the Hershey and Harrisburg regions.

The primary goal of this funding opportunity is to fund innovative and impactful research projects that address important problems at the intersection of health and data science. Each team must consist of one faculty member from the Penn State College of Medicine and one faculty member from Penn State Harrisburg. Proposals representing new collaborations between the co-PIs that have not previously received support from other competitive grant programs are strongly encouraged.

Teams interested in seed funding should download and submit the brief Request for Applications (RFA) to Tyler Deal by November 9, 2026. Five (5) pilots with a maximum budget of $20,000 ($10,000 for Penn State College of Medicine and $10,000 for Penn State Harrisburg) will be awarded. Awardees will be notified via email on November 16, 2026. This pilot award is set to start on November 23, 2026.
